My latest favorite TV show

I’m going to talk about a TV show called “ATYPICAL”.

I started this tv show just a few weeks ago without knowing that it will become one of my favorites.

We’re used to hear about autistic children because of the media, campaigns and people in general, but maybe we are forgetting about teenagers, young adults and adults. So, I think that finally something gave them some visibility.

This show is about an 18 year old boy who had autism and his perspective about life. The story began when he decided to have a girlfriend and tried some new experience with love and friendships, there are some scenes that make us realize how a “simple” little thing makes them “freak out” and how careful and empathetic we need to be.

One of my favorite scenes was when his girlfriend organized an autistic friendly dance; in order to the noise and loud music wouldn’t annoyed him, everyone else was wearing headphones playing music and the place was quiet, so he could enjoy it as everyone else and at the same time be more relax.

We can see his progress in each episode and it’s a big thing, because his plan was to get into college, and when the time came, he will have gotten used to be a little more independent, so if at some point of his college life, he has some trouble, he will have to solve them by his own.

What I liked the most, was that they didn’t show us an “ill boy” or like the disorder itself, but as a lifestyle with some REAL perspective, and I think that’s really important for us (the “typical” people) to know about, I think there should be specific places and behaviors for autistic people, we are not giving them the visibility and importance that they need.

It’s an incredibly funny, interesting and inspiring show, I liked the cast, the story and the fact that is not a kid, so you can see how his transition to a man is.

I really enjoyed it, you should watch it! 🙂
